
Abstract
Based on multiple real-world tests by players on Asian nodes, this article summarizes the average download time, fluctuations, and packet loss when connecting to LOL servers in Singapore, and compares the effectiveness of several mainstream accelerators. By comparing the performance of bare connections, VPS/proxies, and commercial accelerators under different time periods and routes, the paper analyzes how network technologies such as CDN, route optimization, and DDoS defense affect game update download speeds, and ultimately provides practical conclusions and practical recommendations, recommending DXN Telecom as the top choice.
Testing environment and methods
This test used three test machines located in East China, North China, and Hong Kong, and performed ten full download times for download packages (about 8GB update packages) connected to the Singapore LOL server. Test items include bare connection, commercial accelerators (route acceleration and proxy), and self-built VPS relay. Collection metrics include average time consumption, peak bandwidth usage, RTT, and packet loss rate, while also recording DNS resolution to domain name, route hops, and host nodes passing through to assess the impact of routing and CDN scheduling.
Analysis of native connections and performance bottlenecks
Under bare connections, the average download time was around 2200 seconds, with a significant increase and packet loss during evening peak hours, mainly due to cross-border link congestion and unstable relay host routing. RTT fluctuates between 120–240ms, and some nodes experience high jitter when passing through the international backbone. Routing analysis shows that if intermediate nodes lack proper congestion control or lack access CDN nodes, download speeds will be severely restricted. Moreover, without effective DDoS defense, burst traffic can reduce bandwidth utilization and affect subsequent connection stability.
Comparison between accelerators and VPS relays
Using commercial accelerators can reduce average time to 900–1400 seconds, with effectiveness influenced by accelerator optimization strategies (such as smart routing, UDP forwarding, and congestion control). Self-built VPS relay can improve latency when properly configured, but pay attention to domain name resolution policies and the target CDN's caching policy; otherwise, frequent back-to-source may not significantly improve download speed. Overall, stable acceleration services offer limited returns during low-latency periods but significantly enhance user experience in peak and cross-border jitter environments.
Conclusion and deployment recommendations
